James Webb

James Webb (1825-1895) was an English painter of marine and landscape subjects. Many other members of the Webb family were also painters.

Webb painted coastal scenes in England, Wales, Holland and France and views on the Rhine in a robust, naturalistic style, using a range of pale colours, perhaps influenced by Turner. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1853 and 1888 as well as at the British Institution, Suffolk Street, the New Watercolour Society, Grosvenor Gallery and various other venues.

His works can be found in the Tate Gallery, Victoria and Albert Museum and most of the provincial art galleries.
